Metamorphosis Hat
Tunisian Knit hat is fun and easy to make.
You don't have to know how to crochet to make this fun hat. You'll soon fall in love with this fiber technique that is a cross between knitting and crochet and results in a fabric that doesn't look like either.

Once you're proficient at Tunisian Crochet you'll be able to finish the hat in about 2 hours!
It is my favorite emergency gift project. We blogged about it
  • Skills
The hat is worked flat in Tunisian Crochet and seamed up the back. The brim is picked up and knit in a 1x1 or 2x1 rib in the round. Don't know how to Tunisian Crochet? Don't worry ... we've included detailed step-by-step photo instructions to get you started. Warning … once you start it's addictive.
  • Gauge/Yarn
We think the best yarn for this hat is Cascade Mochi Chunky due to its long color changes. Pair that with any merino or blend with a gauge of 4.0 to 4.5 stitches per inch (worsted). We've used Karabella Aurora 8 and Berroco Comfort Chunky (check you stash for partial balls!)

You'll need one ball of main yarn (50 yards) and about 20 yards of contrasting color for the brim (and to extend size of larger hats).
  • Difficulty
This project is good for intermediate knitters who like to try new things. Tunisian Knitting makes a great first craft project for non-knitters but we would recommend a scarf to start with.
  • Sizes
Hat sizes include small, medium and large.
  • Notions
Standard knitting notions: One 16" long circular needle US 7-8, tapestry needle and markers. Also a 14" long Tunisian Crochet Hook size O. You can find them online if you do an internet search. I found mine on Annie's Crafts.
